  Item Descriptions - What do they mean??

    


Fountain Pens - Overall Condition

  • Unused - Uninked, perfect in every way, most unused pens on this site will be supplied in their original box.
  • Mint - Pens may have been inked or the nibs may have been dipped in ink for testing purposes. Pens will be in excellent overall condition with no damage whatsoever. This description will apply to 'New Old Stock (NOS) pens that have had their ink sacs replaced due to age related deterioration. It will also apply to pens that come in to us in their original packaging, they may have been inked and used on a small number of occasions.
  • Grade A - Excellent overall condition. The pens may show signs of light use and may have very fine wear marks or scratches. Any imprint on the barrel will be crisp and easily legible.
  • Grade B - Very good overall condition. The pens may have fine or light scratches and marks. The imprint will be clear and legible. There will be no 'dings' in gold caps or barrels. There will be no teethmarks or other signs of abuse.
  • Grade C - Good overall condition, The pens may have more obvious scratches and marks. The imprint may be faint. They may have one or two minor blemishes (Dings, deeper scratches etc) Any pens in this condition will have all their faults identified in the detailed description that accompanies each item.

    NOTE: A crack or split in any part of a pen is a serious fault. All components are tested and examined to ensure that they are free from cracks. You can be assured that none of the pens available on this website will have any such damage. The grading system above applies to the degree of wear and tear that the pen has endured. It is an indication of the cosmetic condition only. You can rest assured that all pens will be fully functional.

Fountain Pen Nibs - Overall Condition

  • Unused - Perfect in every way. May have been dipped in ink to ascertain nib flex or width but will have been thoroughly cleaned afterwards.
  • Mint -  Has had very light use, unmarked. No wear at all to the tips.
  • Grade A - Excellent overall condition. Shows signs of use (Very light marks and scratches). The nib will be straight and the tines will be in perfect order with no twisting or misalignment.
  • Grade B - Very good overall condition. Shows signs of moderate use (Fine marks and scratches). There may be light wear to the iridium tips but the nib itself will be straight and the tines will be in good order with no twisting or misalignment.
  • Grade C - Good overall condition. Shows signs of heavy use (marks and scratches). There will be wear to the iridium tips. There may be some slight misalignment of the tines and there may be a dent or blemish in the nib itself. Any nibs in this condition will have all their faults identified in the detailed description that accompanies each item. 

    NOTE: Any nib that is cracked or split is immediately rejected and replaced. None of the nibs available on this site, either as part of a complete pen or as a single item, are cracked or split.
