Estimates vary as to how many of these pens were actually produced. Some say as few as 200, others as many as 2000. Whichever is the case this is an extremely rare pen that has been the target of many collectors over the years. When the pen first appeared in 1955 it was targeted at the Ladies pen market, it was not particularly succesful and was discontinued after the first production run - hence its rarity.
This particular example is nice and clean but it does suffer from the inevitable discolouration of the cap and barrel due to an unforeseen chemical reaction with the ink. An unused pen shows none of this discolouration but, as you can imagine, these are almost non-existant. The discolouration on this pen is not as bad as it is on most examples which points to the fact that it was used for a short period. I know for a fact that this example has been stored in a private collection for at least the last thirty years.
The nib is in mint condition and the pen writes with a smooth medium line. It would make a great everyday writing pen but I suspect it will end up in the hands of a private collector.
In terms of condition, the pen is in excellent shape with no scratches, marks or cracks. The gold plating is in good order and there are no added inscriptions. the barrel marking is clear and bright.
