This pen set is a very nice example of the classic No.58 and was produced around 1948. The set comprises of a wonderful No.58 Fountain Pen and a slightly less than wonderful matching propelling pencil.
They are both finished in Blue Marble with gold filled trim to the cap bands and clip. They are in excellent condition with only minor marks and scratches commensurate with use. The gold plating to the clip and cap rings is solid with only minor wear to the edges.
The imprint on the fountain pen is clear and and legible, the fine Duro nib is in perfect condition and has a lovely flex to it. Duro nibs are thicker than standard nibs and are only fitted to the top of the range pens. The pen has been fully restored and writes beautifully.
The mechanism on the pencil works well but the cap does not pull off to reveal the rubber and lead storage area. This does not matter too much as the leads can be loaded from the point end. There is also a small crack near the gold filled lead guide.
The value of this set is in the Fountain Pen, it is a fine example and is in excellent condition. The pencil works well but it has a couple of faults.
The box is original to the pen set and is in great condition.
