4771 Yard-O-Led Diplomat Silver Propelling Pencil No.1031

Description;

This is a lovely pencil from the prestigious UK manufacturers Yard-O-Led. Yard-O-Led were, and still are, responsible for some top quality pencils and the quality of the finish is second to none.

This is a Diplomat Pencil in silver although there are no hallmarks so it could possibly be plated but there are no signs of the wear that you get with plated silver. It feels and looks like sterling but I cannot guarantee it. It is from the Diplomat range and dates, according to its style, from around 1950. It has the number 1031 on the clip above the Yard-O-Led name and the letter "G&H" inside a Dagger on the cartouche. I have no idea what these represent. G&H were a prominent Optical manufacturer around 1950 so it may have been a promotional piece for them.

It is in fabulous condition with a deep and clear engine turned pattern. It has no dings or dents and the mechanism works smoothly. It uses 1.1mm leads which are still readily available.

I do not normally put pencils on the site as they are quite common but this one is a bit special. The fact that it comes from a reputable English manufacturer also helps!
